The Hyper-vigilant Nervous System as Possible Entry into Expanded Intuitive Knowing

A lot of people are experiencing realities whereby they do not trust their intuition and inner wisdom, which everyone has. However, everyone is not yet able to access the intuitive ways and inner wisdom knowing immediately. For most people, it requires a set of tools and a cultivated practice over time to restore and expand these natural ways of knowing, which at some point has the potential to become working wisdom, meaning that which is accessible at all times and becomes a natural part of the everyday lived experience of reality, easily reentering the flow in the center when thrown off by stressful or shocking events. Having access to these parts of self changes everything.

Interestingly, adverse experience, particularly in developmental years, that results in a nervous system primed to sensitivity and acute monitoring of environments can be helpful and part of the process in quickening the ability to notice subtle energies and cultivate deeper intuition, because part of the process is already operational. There is a precision naturally available to some people who have become accustomed to tuning into everyone and everything around them to gauge safety or risk. That can be hyper-vigilance, a state whereby one is constantly assessing and/or attuning to everything around oneself to determine if one is safe. It may not be conscious, but if active and constant, the state can be exhausting. It might create a sense of jumpiness, anxiety, lessened ability to focus on tasks in a more relaxed way, a heightened emotional state, sensitivity to sound, light, temperature, fragrance, touch, etc. There can also be a tendency to accumulate energies that are not one’s own because the individual is keeping their Field very wide to assess a large area. The monitoring can also blend with empathy.

This can be supported in many ways (this is one of my specialties) in order to create a new experience. What I’d like to speak to here is the possible gift in that vigilant, empathic, habitual, challenging, protective response to former adverse experience or chronic stress. While honoring and working with those responses in titrated ways, we can also utilize those learned ways to track and tune to subtle energies of self and environment for the re-connection to deeper intuitive knowing. The dance here is in finding the support and practices that move ones experience more toward a sense of more stability and balance in order to support the nervous system, after which there is more capacity to notice and observe subtle energy from a new vantage point and for the purpose of greater intuition. For many who developed in this way in childhood, the tracking of subtle energy is already known on some level. It just needs support and conscious awareness to soften, refine, and use that skill to expand into intuitive knowing that becomes working wisdom.

After resources are noticed and brought into practice through awareness, one of the first things I do with clients who are in the process of opening spiritually who at the same time have learned protective hyper-vigilance strategies is using those same ways and redirecting the observing nature to the subtle body/energy. When one works somatically as well as energetically, one creates new conditions from which more potentials are possible and flexible capacity and intuitive knowing grow together.
